The Biblioteca Gabriel García Márquez is located in the neighbourhood of La Verneda i la Pau, in the district of Sant Martí.

It has six floors, a visible wooden structure and nearly 4,000 square metres of floor space. Opened last year, the library specialises in Latin American literature and is the latest in a prestigious list of libraries to gain this award.

Other recent winners include: Missoula Public Library (USA), Deichman Bjørvika (Norway) and the Oodi Helsinki Central Library (Finland).
